Mari Sandoz, "Nebraska's Story Teller" was a prize -winning author and historian who wrote about the travelers to and the settlement of the Great Plains.
The Sandoz High Plains Heritage Center is toward the west side of the Chadron State College (CSC) Campus at 10th and Main Street in Chadron, NE. The Sandoz Center was dedicated in 2002 and is housed in the renovated former Chadron State College Library - which had been on the National Register of Historic Places. There is a relatively new attached Atrium for special exhibits and meeting events.
The Sandoz display includes museum and art exhibits plus an archive library of the works of Mari Sandoz. The display is very well done, and includes several large photo display boards plus an interactive computer Mari Sandoz information lookup and some historical items.

The Sandoz High Plains Heritage Center admission is free. You can support the Center by purchases at a small book store with Nebraska Titles or by making a donation. We bought a couple of books from the helpful staff lady in charge of the exhibit that day who said we could take pictures of the Mari Sandoz exhibit for this Web Site.
